I have been told that my work is colorful, happy, and at times endearing. I have always considered my work to be a type of folkart with a semi-pointillism style because of the subjects and technique that I choose. My husband calls my style of painting...." Blue Collar Impressionism," which I think fits wonderfully. I am not a professionally trained artist and have developed my style because I like to use texture and bright colors and my paintings are concepts that have touched a cord with me. I try to make each of my paintings touch a cord with others.
I grew up in the military. We traveled all the time, and my parents would buy me every kind of art kit available to do in the back seat of the car.I went to high school in Japan, and when I returned to the States, I went to Southwest Texas State in San Marcos. I graduated with a teaching degree in Biology and Science and taught for the next 30 years.
I started to paint after I retired at the request of a close friend, who wanted a chicken painted on an old table. I told her that I would attempt to do the table.One thing lead to another, and I started to paint what ever caught my attention. My son suggested that I try to show my art at various places around Austin, which I did with much success, and now I have graduated to entering art exhibitions.
I like to paint new subjects and I always think about suggestions people give me. I have started to paint some working dogs at the suggestion of my brother who is a hunter.Being a Biology teacher made me interested in flowers, and birds, and I found that I really like painting wildlife and nature scenes. I like doing the research that goes along with making the painting authentic. I like antiques, and love old crocks, so painting folk art motiffs, in the Pennsylvania Dutch style caught my eye, and I have started painting furniture also.
I am married, and I have three kids. They are my critics and staunchest supporters.I also have a "herd" of five dogs, who inspire me everyday with their antics. I suppose because of them, my favorite subject to paint is still dogs.
